A procedure that allows to take a look inside the uterus through a scope. The physician can see the linoing of the uterus (endometrium) and the openings of the fallopian tubes. It allows direct view of the uterine lining and the ability to take samples of tissue. This procedure is minimally invasive and may be performed in an office or outpatient setting. Operative Hysteroscopy – While the physician is visualizing the uterus and endometrial lining, she may remove polyps, fibroids or perform a D&C. This procedure is typically performed in a surgi-center setting.

When there is an abnormal Pap Smear report or an unhealthy looking cervix then the doctor will plan for a colposcopy for you. It feels similar to a Pap smear collection but instead of taking a sample of cervical cells, your doctor places the colposcope at the vaginal opening to more closely examine your cervical tissue in order to detect any abnormalities. In areas where cervical tissue may appear suspicious, she will use a separate instrument to obtain a small tissue sample.. The tissue will then be sent to a lab for analysis.

Laparoscopy is a type of keyhole surgery that’s performed in the abdominal (belly) area. It has advantages such as more rapid recovery, reduced pain and much smaller scars. In laparoscopy, the surgeon uses only small cuts to get through the skin and then using camera and thin tubular instruments, surgeon examines or operates on the interior of the abdominal or pelvic cavities. One or more other small incisions may be made for other small instruments if needed.

It is performed under general anesthesia, usually by a surgeon or gynecologist (women’s health specialist). Laparoscopy is used to diagnose conditions or perform surgery in the abdominal and pelvic area. It can be used to remove uterus and ovarian cysts, treat endometriosis and ectopic pregnancy and to search for causes of ongoing pain.
